GLYN WYLFA WAS ESTABLISHED WITH A MISSION TO TRANSFORM DISUSED COUNCIL PREMISES INTO A CAFÉ (CAFFI WYLFA) AND AN OFFICE SPACE (GLYN WYLFA)

WHO WE ARE
Glyn Wylfa was established with a grant of nearly £600,000 from the National Lottery and Wrexham Country Borough Council. The community enterprise now makes all its income from trading and reinvests its profits to support local charities and improve its environmental sustainability.
The café has become a community hub and tourist information centre. The office spaces are rented out to local businesses that provide essential services for the benefit of the local community.
SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL PURPOSE
We are a social enterprise business that trades for a social and environmental purpose. There are more than 131,000 social enterprises in the UK, with a collective turnover of £78 billion and employing around 2.3 million people.
Social enterprises demonstrate a better way to do business, one that prioritises benefit to people and planet and uses the majority of any profit to further their mission. Social enterprises contribute to reducing economic inequality, improving social justice and to environmental sustainability

Judith Flack
“I’m Judith Flack. After spending many years visiting Caffi Wylfa, in April 2024 I volunteered to join the Board of this Social Enterprise to enable me to understand exactly how Glyn Wylfa and Caffi Wylfa are run. I was extremely impressed especially in the way they support the community in the amount of organisations they sponsor. I look forward to seeing Caffi Wylfa go from strength to strength.”

"What we recognised here is a real place-based set of impacts… building some real community difference, really enhancing the place, making use of an asset that otherwise might have gone to waste, taking that initial grant money and using that to get the thing rolling, but then making it a really embedded part of the local community.. We were just blown away."
"I've rented an office space in the Gyln Wylfa now for nearly a decade bringing the much needed tools and space to successfully run my business. The team has been very accommodating to my needs and are always on hand to help. The ethos here is centered around helping the community and I can't think of anyone else who rises to the challenge like the team both here and the Cafe Wylfa do on a regular basis."
"The office space is ideal to run a business from. There is good communication in that someone will always answer your email. … I love my office space and used to make use of the café facilities much more before Covid, but like everyone we have to pull in our belts and not indulge ourselves too often! … To close I would like to congratulate all the volunteers/trustees who enable this establishment to be such a great, safe place to work."
"Please accept our thanks for all you have achieved for your social enterprise but mainly in ensuring that our community of Chirk has benefited from your success. Friends of Chirk Station Learning from the Past and Building on the Future Helping to keep our community on track and growing."
