Impact and Sustainability
Glyn Wylfa won the Natwest SE 100, Social Business Pioneer Award and for the fifth year running, is listed in the top 100 Social Enterprises in the UK. In November 2023 we won the Social Enterprise award at the Wrexham Community Business Awards and in 2021 Glyn Wylfa won the best Transformative Community UK Business Award, presented by Social Enterprise UK.
Caffi Wylfa
Operates as a café, community hub and tourist information centre and is open 7 days a week. The Caffi employs 17 local people and has increased sales each year by increasing the scope and scale of its menu and responding to customer demand. After the Covid Pandemic, we have exceeded 75,000 visitors per year to the Caffi.








Social and Environmental Purpose
Our customers and users of the facilities are drawn from the county of Wrexham and border areas and include many regular visitors who use it use it as a meeting place and community hub. This is supplemented in the summer months by the many visitors to the World Heritage site, Chirk Aqueduct and Viaduct and walkers in the Ceiriog Valley.
We encourage customers and visitors of all ages, ethnic groups, minority groups, the elderly and people with special needs. We have a carefully planned interior and exterior for disabled access including automatic access doors and wheelchair friendly tables outside and provide facilities for mothers and young children.
Impact and Sustainability
Glyn Wylfa has grown steadily over the last 5 years and achieved total sales income of £492,000 for the 12 months ended August 2024 which represents a 100% increase from 5 years ago and a 10% increase on last year. We are confident that as a social enterprise, we can continue this growth and benefit to the local community.
These carefully selected investments have provided the basis to support financial and environmental sustainability and continue our growth, while also meeting our core objective of “For the benefit of the Local Community”.

the investment in a new kitchen oven, hobs and extraction system, Solar panel installation, low energy lighting and new refrigerated storage has reduced our electricity energy usage by 50%.
Atown councillor sits on the board and regular advice is received from a County Councillor. We display local artists work in the Caffi which demonstrates the rich abilities and culture of our community and have regular discussions with walking groups, bikers, senior groups and local help groups.
Support is provided for all and includes training, confidential support, bonus payments and regular achievement recognition.
We measure our annual investment into our equipment and facilities plus donations to local groups and charities and aim to exceed 75% of generated profits. In 2024 we made 20 local charitable donations, totalling over £10,000.
In 2024 we have joined the WCBC Social Enterprise Impact measurement programme. We have also forged a partnership with ABF, a Wrexham based, 30year old Mental Health charity to deliver national approved mental health courses for our community.
